Considering Immigrating To Canada? 3 Programs That Can Help

Law Articles

There are many reasons to consider immigrating to Canada. Maybe you're already a legal resident and would like to make your stay permanent by becoming a citizen. Maybe you are attracted by the growing economy, low taxes, and abundant business opportunities that the country offers. Or perhaps you're interested in living in a diverse, multicultural nation with a high standard for the quality of life of its citizens. Whatever your reasons, you'll find that Canada is a very welcoming country. In fact, there are a variety of immigration programs available for interested individuals. Check out three of them and decide whether or not one of them might be right for you.

The Skilled Worker Program

Canada recently reopened its skilled worker program, an immigration initiative that allows people who are experienced in certain career fields to apply for residence in the country. International Ph.D. students and those who can obtain an arranged job offer in Canada are also eligible for this program.

The skilled worker program presents some exciting opportunities for prospective Canadian residents, because the Canadian government has expanded the program's eligibility parameters. Previously, there were less than 25 careers that were included in the program, but that number has been increased to 50 with the new reopening. Furthermore, while the program used to only allow in 3,000 immigrants annually, by 2015, it will allow for as many as 25,000. If you work in a qualifying field, you should definitely explore your eligibility for this program.

The Start-up Visa Program

An exciting new program for potential Canadian immigrants is the Start-up Visa program for entrepreneurs. This program, one of Canada's business class immigration programs, recently approved its first two applications. The program is aimed at bringing innovative businesses and business professionals to Canada.

In order to qualify, applicants have to have already secured the backing of a Canadian venture capital company. The government is currently testing out the program with a pilot plan that's expected to last for five years. During those five years, the maximum number of applicants that will be approved is 2750. The Start-Up Visa program is a terrific opportunity for up and coming business men and women. If you have a terrific idea for a start-up and you can obtain funding from a venture capital firm located in Canada, you should consider applying for this pilot program.

Self-Employed Persons Program

If you're interested in living in Canada and being your own boss, the Self-Employed Persons program might be the right program for you to consider. This program, another business class immigration program, is open to those who intend to work in cultural activities, athletics, or farm management.

The Self-Employed Persons program is opened to those who have relevant experience in the field that they plan to be self-employed in. Recent experience in that field is preferable. In this case, immigrations are looking for people who have a strong probability of making their business profitable in Canada. While not required, if you have relatives that live in the country, have already been conducting business in Canada, or if you have a strong Canadian customer base, all of that can help you be approved to live in Canada under the Self-Employed Persons program. You'll need to show that you can support yourself and your family with your business. However, there are no other conditions imposed on those who are approved for the Self Employed Persons program.

If one of these programs sounds like a good fit for you, or if you're interested in another way to immigrate to Canada, a Canadian immigration lawyer can help you figure out how to qualify. A lawyer from a place such as Little Valerie M Law Corp who is experienced with the Canadian immigration system is the best person to guide you through the process.
